Grants

The Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, Inc. actively investigates potential grants through the Department of Labor and Industry and other potential funding sources.

Flood Grant:
On October 25, 2004 the Tri-County WIB was awarded a 3.4 million dollar emergency grant to begin the process of removing debris from local creeks and streams left behind by the remnants of both Hurricanes Frances and Ivan.
In the local area this effort was lead by the County Commissioners of Armstrong, Butler, and Indiana counties and Tri-County WIB.  Workers unemployed from a job, for no part of their own, were hired to supervise and restore, by clearing streams and other public properties of debris at a wage of  $10.00 an hour.

UMWA Grant:
Through a joint effort with the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (TCWIB) and the State Department of Labor and Industry, TCWIB received $12.5 million in a National Emergency Grant (NEG) to provide basic readjustment services to the hundreds of dislocated mine workers throughout the Tri-County and southwestern PA area.

Dislocated mine workers were provided basic readjustment services including occupational skill training, on-the-job training, entrepreneurial assistance, peer counseling, interest and abilities assessment, job search assistance, literacy training, Adult Basic Education, GED and remediation services.
